People always ask me if I am training for something.
"You are so fit, how much time do you spend in the gym?"
No, I'm not training for anything. I work out about 5 days a week. It's just part of my life.
People who aren't quite committed to fitness think it sounds crazy. Why, then, do I do it?
It restores my soul, my mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing.
I believe in healing through fitness. Over the years I have had my ups and downs in my fitness journey but every time I find myself back to a fitness regime it has given me healing in different ways.
Fitness to me isn't just being in the gym or on the trail, which builds my strength and cardiovascular endurance. I'm building confidence, mental toughness, and resilience.
Working out alone, or just lacing up my running shoes and hitting the trail, gives me mental clarity and relieves stress and anxiety. It helps me stay present and take in all the blessings God has given me.
Working out with friends or in a group builds on community, belonging, and connecting with others.
My fitness journey is continuously finding balance in life, for me it starts with prioritizing wellness and creating the space I need to grow.
I think someone who questions the time you devote to fitness, hasn't really experienced healing through fitness as a part of overall well being.
Encourage one another and invite someone new to experience healing through fitness.
Just keep in mind your journey isn't the same as everyone else's journey, and doesn't need to be compared to someone who may do more or less than you.
Your journey is where you find balance and healing.
